sump question

would it be possible to place a powerhead in your tank to send water to the sump and then a powerhead of equal size to send it back to the tank? Just wondering if this could be a alternative to bulky overflows if you do not have a drilled tank.

Nope, not doable. One pump would pump just a little more than the other, the return pump would be battling head pressure and the drain pump would have gravity on it's side. Even with a weak pump in the tank and an oversized return (with a valve) you would never get it dialed in just right. Bottom line is you would end up with a wet floor...sooner or later.

He is correct, the only possible way to level it out would be if the pumps were at the exact same level and they both maintained exact flow, and Venus was in line with Mars and the Dow Jones was up 10 points. Not my choice for a DIY project, unless you maintain your aquarium next to a floor drain and don't mind wet floors.
