I hope J-1 didn't mind that everyone saw spermatophores hanging from his siphon. I suppose after 5 years in a tank with no female octopuses, you just don't care anymore, though. 8O

In an unrelated story, Officials claim that 32 shipments of Viagra disappeared off the back of a freight truck near the vicinity of the Aquarium.

Authorities Baffled.

Oh good lord!

Hey if my fate was to starve to death after bearing kids, I'd wait as long as possible too! Why can't they kill the male afterwards like any "normal" Arthropod. :D

Didn't need the mental pictures either : P

don't they usually fix an octopuss when they put it in an aquarium because they always die after mating, that way they live longer then say a year?

Huh, I knew after tending to the eggs and what not the octopus is weak and starving (sometimes they will eat their own legs before they leave their babys) but I thought they died because they were to weak to fight off their enemies. So..... if she has no enemies in the tank... and they just feed her, wouldn't she live? or am i over simplifying?

I saw a show on discovery that showed how the females usually die because they do not eat during the entire time the eggs are hatching. This usually leaves them to weak to defend themselves against predators. This should not be a problem in a aquarium.

Yah, i saw something very similiar on Animal Planet- "Worlds most extreme moms" the octopus was number 2 I believe. They will eat their own arms if they get hungry... but they die because they are too weak to fight off predetors.. you would think of someone "feed" them while they were watching over the eggs or after the eggs hatched or something
