Hey there,
I was wondering how to cool a 55 gallon tank down between 16 and 20*c?
This is the temperature that Axotols require.

Is this just a leave the tank without heater and it cools? Or is there something I can use to cool the water and keep it there?

Thanks!!! =]

It depends on the room temperature at which you keep your house. For instance, I run a tank with no heater and it still stays at 25* C. If you want your water to be colder, you may have to purchase an aquarium chiller.

They are quite spendy, however.

Edit: Of course, you can fill your aquarium with the proper temperature water and see if it warms over time.

Without help, a tank won't get cooler than the ambient room temperature. As Rosenweiss suggested a chiller is an option, but they're expensive. There's a DIY option, but it involves digging a hole in the ground, lots of tubing, and a pump.

Ooh, okay, thanks guys, much appreciated!

May go somewhere today and check out a chiller! Bbrrrrr!

Haha! Good luck! Remember though that most fish can acclimate just fine to higher temperatures than the ideal.
