algae problem

How does one increase nitrates? Would fewer gravel vac sessions do it?
 
Yes, and more fish. :fish2: Ammonia from fish becomes nitrite which then becomes nitrate.

Thought it would be the old nitrogen cycle. Just seems too easy ;)
 
There may be something you can add if you have something (the plants) using the nitrate up too quickly. In fact, I think that's the first number on fertilizer specifications. Be careful of ammonium nitrate though. It's poison (makes LOTS of ammonia). Maybe somebody else can be more specific. I would want to go for more pretty fish right now. :D

Nice solution to have... Get rid of algae by increasing nitrate. Increase nitrate by increasing fish.
 
Just don't get the fish too crowded. This isn't Tokyo. [emoji15]
