I would consider a male betta. The tank size is fine, and it can add a lot of life with a contrasting background.

I am actually considering a 2.5 gal for my office space.

Cherry shrimp would work but not with a betta. Also with cherrys the water parameters have to be kept up.

I already have a betta tank so a beta is not a option thx for the help guys what substrate i already have sand and gravel If I can use those
