Plants.. cupped vs no cups

I got several plants earlier, and two of them came in cups with wet styrofoam, it has holes to allow roots to grow. Should I leave them in the cups or take them out? Currently, they are in cups, buried under the substrate

I got a few plants packaged like this. I cut the plastic cup away with scissors and then removed the styrofoam stuff - I think it's called rockwool. Remove the rockwool carefully from the roots and plant the roots into the substrate as usual. The rockwool would probably rot if left in the substrate for too long.

Rockwool will also leach phosphates into the water. This may cause a nutrient imbalance, which can cause an algae outbreak.

thank you. I took the plants out of the cups and cleaned the roots. One of the plants I was able to separate, which made me happy because I can spread it abit more.
