You can buy empty pill cases, put the osmocote in them and push them into your substrate like root tabs. Freeze 6 or so in an ice cube, then put it in the substrate. The ice melts and leaves the fert. Roll some in some clay and let it air dry, then use as a root tab. The clay also provides iron?maybe? I think! Or get a small square of one ply tissue paper, put some in and push into substrate.
I use the ice cube method.

I'm not 100% on that but I think terra-cotta. Something without additives.

Use natural pottery clay, no modeling clay. It can be tricky to find, I much prefer using the ice cube method with osmocote±

I don't know what everyone else adds but I do 6-12 per cube then put them every 3-4 square inches.

Yeah but don't use the blue ones! You might want to do some searching and find out what kind to use too. I use Australian native because is low in P and high in Fe.

Also keep in mind that you'll still want to dose liquid/dry ferts, since many plants don't have the root structure to utilize substrate ferts very well.

Yeah ive been wondering wat cam I dose those that dint have roots or their roots are not in the substrate
