I have a 55 gallon with current usa led plus lights, and I was wondering what sort of fertilizer to use, currently I use excel and root tabs. I asked a lfs on what's hey use and they said the used miracle grow. They do a mixture in a gallon of water of 18tsp. Then they put 1/4 cup for every 5 gallons they take out during water changes. Anyone else have a suggestion?

Dry fert package from Green Leaf Aquariums. Do either a EI or PPS pro dosing method. It's a pretty standard method for planted tank owners.

The thing I would be worried about with miracle grow is that is likely contains ammonia and could cause issues.

If the miracle grow doesn't have anything bad for the fish in it, then there's no reason why that wouldn't work. That being said, it sounds like a cumbersome and obtuse solution to a problem that's simply and elegantly answered with dry ferts such as what GLA sells.
