Small colorful livebearer native to Venezuela and closely related to the guppy (poecilia reticulata). This fish is very active and hardy and is a prolific breeder. It prefers warm, hard, and alkaline water and can be found in brackish streams and ponds and floodplains in its native environment. Gestation is about 23 days and broods typically number 5-10 live self sufficient young. Endlers do not cannibalize their young like fancy guppies sometimes do. They prefer warm water about 77-82 degrees and like live plants and gravel. They are very sensitive to light, so a peaceful place with natural daylight is ideal (even outside in a tub is fine). Diet includes small livefoods, frozen foods such as brine shrimp and bloodworms, algae and prepared tropical flakes. Species is found primarily from a small region in venezuela known as Campoma region and is fast becoming sparse in the wild due to Human activities and pollution/deforestation and dams. An excellent choice for someone looking for an small colorful active livebearer that is easy to take care of. Several varieties are avaliable as well as hybrids, since they do interbreed with guppies and their offspring are fertile. True wild forms are move valuable than the hybrid lines.
