I picked up a green chromi last night at the lfs. all it seems to be doing today it swimming around near the top of the tank in circles. is that normal?

Fish do all different kinds of things. He`s not doing anything strange IMO. Those fish do better in schools. At least three.

I have three Chromis in a 75. After lights out around 11:00, he swims back and forth across the tank for literally hours. Exercising??

Sounds more like it is scared/stressed for what ever reason, if at a frantic pace? Many fish do not like complete darkness, perhaps that is the problem?
