Thoughts on GFO and Carbon reactors

I wanted to know what people thoughts are about GFOs and carbon reactors. Are they absolutely needed? I plan on having a FOWLR and maybe some coral, haven't decided about it, but I wanted to know what peoples thoughts are about GFOs and carbon reactors.

No, they aren't needed for a FOWLR at all, but coral is another story. That said, I don't use them and my coral grows just as good as the next guys. It's all about water quality.
