Hi all,
I'm thinking of getting a 10 gallon tank, which I know weighs about 111lbs. I'm trying to figure out if my hope chest would be sturdy enough. It's wood, not flimsy. It holds me when I lie on it :p (150lbs) it's 3 ft long.
How do you know if something will be strong enough? I've read that most tanks 10gal or under are okay on household furniture. Thanks.

Is that chest important to you at all? I would be worried about damage to the chest from the inevitable water spilling out of the tank. If you do decide to use it I would put something waterproof over it.

Sorry I don't mean to spam the thread but alternately I have this.

I don't mind about water spillage. I'm just wondering about strength. But good idea to put something waterproof over it.

I would probably trust the second one looks to be braced better
could lightly sand it to get off the shine than use a marine grade urethane
they use it on wood on boats and holds up good and resistant to water
