Then why go with halides?

Gti_Leo is right, t5's are brighter than a 250 watt mh at that depth, when you have quality lamps. That's my experience. They won't be brighter than a 400 mh though. T5's will be a solid blanket of light, mh will be less intense the farther away from the center of the light.

there are different situations, and they call for different lighting. if i had a 24" cube tank or maybe a wedge shaped corner tank, i would use a halide over it.
