Actinics and MH

Are actinics required when you use MH lighting? Recommended?

I'm thinking of putting a small pendant on my 30 gal (ordinarily overkill perhaps but I'll raise it a bit - gotta have those ripples!!)

First I have to figute out how I'll do it .... if I need to.

Actinics are not required but are nice to have if you want that dawn dusk effect. Actinics turn on a hour before MH and turn off an hour later after MH turn off.

How many watts is your MH? I doubt it will be overkill

It isn't, yet. I think now I realize I'll have to stick with PC for a while. THe MH pendant I thought was a steal, WAS ... it was stealing from my wallet - didn't know that the ballast was extra.

My tank is only 30 gal, and the money needs to go elsewhere. I'll just double up on my PC lighting for a while.
