My 55g looks pretty dark with the regular fluorecent lighting. The lights are at least a year old and they're only 18" not 24". Do you guys think changing out the bulbs for newer ones would brighten up the tank much?

Thanks

Your Lighting Question

Good morning sub...

I have 55 G tanks, low tech, low light. The two-tube lighting setup isn't very bright even with new bulbs. I'd recommend going with a single bulb, 48 inch strip light. I use one 32 watt, T5, 6500 K bulb and my low light plants do very well. I generally replace the bulb every 8 months or so.

The lighting is very inexpensive. I get a package of three at Lowe's for about $10.00.
