I have a Fluval 304 canister filter, running on a 50 gallon tank, which causes me nothing but headaches and grief. Now, I have a 33 gallon tank which I want to convert to a sump. I have everything I need for this project, except for a return pump. I have been looking into different ones and the one I had thought would be good for my set up was the Eheim Compact pump 1000 ( 260gph with 6.4 ft head height). My head height if only about 4.5 - 5 ft. Does this seem like it would work well?

Cheers,

What problems are you having with the Fluval?

I prefer canisters and HOBs over sumps in freshwater. Even on huge tanks I would not go with a sump (with very few exceptions, like stingrays).

I use Rio pumps, if I stepped up it would be to Mag Drives. Both have a wide range of sizes and flow rates and are standard enough to easily find parts, accessories, etc.
