Attention fellow Reefers! One thing I have noticed is that sumps are like snowflakes. No two are the same. Post your sumps here in this thread so we can all see each others creativity. Remember, its not a contest, it's just for fun and education!

Sump On!

ReeferRusty's 30 Gallon Reef Sump

Hey folks, Ill start this off.

Here is my sump, Originally it started as a three chamber, but I ran out of room down the line as my plant collection decided to multiply itself. I needed more area to house my bad Damsel and Purple Pin Cushion Urchin. So this worked perfect.

I have the following in or on my sump.

  • Custom Crossbones (Thanks to my 13 year old Daughter)
  • Two chambers - [Refugium] [Skimmer and Crash Zone]
  • 165 Watt LED Light Fixture
  • Return Gate
  • 1 1/2" Drain from display
  • 1" Return to display
  • Foam Block and Baffels to reduce micro bubbles
  • Reef Octopus NWB-150 Protein Skimmer
  • PanWorld 100PX-X 1270GPH Return Pump
  • ReefKeeper Elite PC4 Power Strips (4)
  • 4" Filter Sock
  • Cheato Algae
  • Red Grape Algae
  • Shaving Brushes
  • Live Sand
  • Reef Rock Rubble
  • Snails

I have nothing fancy. 3 chambers.

-filter sock
-live rock
-Bubble magus nac6a
-Mag 7 return
-TLF Phos reactor (GFO)
-Macro Glo fuge light

The middle chamber was intended for a fuge but after upgrading my skimmer from an ASM mini G to a NAC6A, it would not fit next to my filter sock but the setup is working great. I love overskimming.

Nice and simple ! I have a schuran skimmer and rock rubble with a simple marine White t8 and one extract fan and 2 supply fans !

These fans have made a huge difference in the cabinet in keeping it dry but obviously there's more evaporation

Rusty, I wouldn't have anything that eats algae in the refugium. It defeats the purpose.
Mine is also simple, but a big larger.
It started out like this-
img_2303357_0_95bac68569b3ce3a0aec257176482f36.jpg

The shallow 50 gallon stock tank holds algae and some live rock, and drains into the 100 gallon stock tank on the floor that has another 60 or so pounds of live rock in it.

Then I went to two 50 gallon stock tanks, I added the filter socks, and a second skimmer. There is another 50 pounds of rock in the second shallow tank. They still drain into the 100 gallon tank on the floor.

I haven't been able to get a decent front picture because I have to get so far away to get the 8 feet in the picture. I'll try to shoot one tonight and post it in my tank build page.

And I thought I was the only one with a sump fetish.

I just recently finished this custom cabinet for my 110 gal tank. ATO stored in the left cabinet, food and chems in the right. The center is my 30 gal sump. It's somewhat unique in that it only has 2 sections. The first has the drains, SRO 2000 skimmer, pump for GFO reactor which is behind the sump, cheato and finally rock rubble which is right full to keep cheato pieces from getting away. Then the return section with an external pump.
Switches for skimmer, return, PHs and ATO. Tier for PHs and fuge lighting on back walls. Oh yeah, my bio pad for my QT filter is in there getting bacterialized (new word, I just invented it).

Just got mine finished. I had a premade 10g but upgraded when I was given a 55g tank. A sheet of plex and some silicone and now I have this monster.

Hope this pic attaches.

90 Gallon Sump in the Making

Forgot to post this one. I'm building a Coral Farm and I'm building this sump for the system. I also have a 15 bay fish holding system that has a sump to but i still have to pick it up. I have it purchased but means of transporting a 7 foot tall 5 foot wide system is tricky. Anyhow, here is the future 90 gallon sump. I have (2) 4 ft tall reef octopus recirculating skimmers.
