I have just purchased a tank setup for my niece for tropical fish. I have never had a tank before and so followed what I thought would be the sensible route.

Anyhow my question is thus;

When I set up the air pump (simple tube with Airtech 2K1UK Aquarium air pump) It hummed slightly when first connected and now has stopped and, no bubbles!

Should the water level be at a certain point in relation to the top of the outer tube holding the inner tube in the water? Should the pump be making a noise, an if not, is the pump faulty? Should the pump take time to adjust before working?

I am completely confused to why it's not working!

Any help appreciated... please!

Sounds like a dead pump to me. Their should be bubbles coming out for the aeration of the water. If its plugged in and their are no bubbles plus no slight humming sound I'm pretty sure its a faulty pump. I would go back and get is replaced.
