After the success of my 50 gallon tank I am planning a 300 gallon build and would like some help on the base. I was going to double up on the glass. Would you put the second layer of glass on the inside of the tank. So the sides and ends will be ontop of the first later and stuck to the edges of the second layer. Also when you double up do you literally just silicone the two pieces together and clap them until the silicone has cured? And I will bevel all the edges as this will give more surface area for the silicone to stick to. One last question. Clear or black silicone?

I would be concerned about condensation building up between the 2 pains of glass
why not just use thicker glass

Agreed. I don't see how the first pane of glass would be any stronger or crack resistant than if you had it sitting on pressure treated wood.
