Any ideas on what this stringy protrusion is coming out of my platy?

Its poo. But its not healthy poo, try feeding him peas. To feed them peas, boil them in a cup in the microwave for 2 minutes then pop them out of their shells and moosh them with your finger and out them into the tank. They love peas

You don't even need to boil them, you can just put them under a hot tap and deshell them.
