are they laying fry soon?

They are live-bearers, they don't lay fry just so you know. The fry come out live instead of eggs, unless the mother is stressed and she aborts them.

I would say you have a few weeks to go. Their bellies aren't too squared off yet. Of course, that's just a general thing. The bellies don't always square off before birth.
 
Like dragonfish said they don't lay fry. They look like they have another 2-3 weeks yet, so release them back into the main tank, until they become squared off and more gravid.
 
I woke up this morning to find that the wagtail is giving birth
I relocated her in the breeding box and witnessed the birth of one

I returned from work to find that all the fries disappeared from the box. Somehow they have managed to get out. How could they?
