I was walking by my tank today, and noticed my GBR guarding a leaf on a sword plat LOADED with eggs. She is the only Ram in the tank, so what will happen to the eggs? Are they just going to die? I feel bad for her going through all this work basically for no reason. What should I do?

Hello-

Since there is no male ram in the tank to fertilize them, the eggs will not survive. The female who laid them will likely give up and eat them, or let other fish eat them. If you are looking to breed them, I suggest getting a male ram. There is a chance that they will "pair up" (bond and basically become a couple) and breed. It sounds like the female really wants to breed, so I have little doubt that you will have issues getting them to spawn once you have a male in the tank. What size tank do you have, and what other fish are in it?
