The poor fish :(

I have 7 comet goldfish in my 300 gallon tank with 9 assorted danios. I have had three instances now of the majority of my goldfish mobbing one fish and rubbing against it and butting it and basically pushing it right out of the water to the point of killing it.

I read from other sites that this is common breeding behavior, but they also say that the fish will be fine. The fish are most definitely not fine

Is what's happening actually breeding behavior, or do I have a large problem that I need to tend to?

i was told....

the problem is a bad sex ratio sounds like they have 1 mature female and the rest are males so they will be mobbing her

Thanks a lot. I guess this means removing half of the guys and replacing with a like number of gals. This is gonna be sad for me, as I have had these guys since I bought them from a feeder tank. Then again... I could always just go with an all-guy tank, and it should hold me for at least 20 years
