Things are coming along here. Still not a whole lot of growth so no real point in photos.

Looks like the AS is finally slowing down on the leaching of ammonia. I tested .5ppm the day after a 50% WC yesterday. Anyone know how long it usually takes for it to stop? I'm also reading Nitrite (on the way down) and Nitrate (on the way up) so it looks like the cycle is going well.

I've got a question for you guys though. I'm looking at keeping either CRS/CBS or Blue Tigers in this tank. I've been reading that I need to get the GH up to 6-8 or so. Right now it looks like the KH and GH are both at 2 although that darn test kit is hard to read. So... do I need to so something to get the GH up? If so, what do you suggest?

Thanks

AS tends to take several weeks to cycle. i tend just to put it in a bucket to leech off forget about it a couple weeks and be done with it. CRS/CBS or blue tigers both do better in softer lower ph water. it should be fine. the AS brings the hardness and ph down so you will just be fighting that trying to get it back up.

Just a quick update. Things are moving reeeeeeeeeeealy slow. Moved the hairgrass to another tank because it was growing a bit long for my liking but the E. Tenellus 'Micro Red' that replaced it is growing in very well and turning a very pretty pink color. The 'Petite' is doing what it does and growing very slowly. The moss on the tree is also growing in very slowly. I added some more xmas moss to the tree but when I got up the next morning it was all brown and dead so I pulled it back out. The shrimp all seem to love their new home though. Very active and no deaths at all.

Other than that I've got a minor problem with hair algae and have been invaded by ramshorn snails. There's hundreds. I made a trap today so we'll see how that goes.

Should have pulled the equipment but it was a spur of the moment photo session.

Ya know, I have never been a fan of shrimp because the ones I have seen are see through and that creeps me out, but I am REALLY liking these little guys!!! (I might have to think about getting some sometime LOL)

I absolutely love the tank. I have been thinking about picking up some shrimp and making my 10g a shrimp tank. I enjoyed watching my ghost shrimp (while they lasted) so I think I'd really like a shrimp only tank. Keep us posted as things fill in.

I got some from dskidmore on here. It has since been mixed in with other mosses. I haven't seen it many other places other than eBay and AquaBid that sell it.

Meegosh and dkpate: I never thought I'd get into shrimp either. I was always a big tank and aggressive kinda guy. Stumbled into planted tanks about six months ago and from there made my way to shrimp. There are a ton of different types out there and many are quite beautiful. Its a fun little challenge.

Dragonfish: I got the xmas moss from a member of a local aquatic plant club (SCAPE) here in Ca. I don't know if you've got a local plant club there but its a great resource for me here. There are also some planted tank forums that can also be a good place to look.

cabezon: Thanks :)

Etunes: I have Java moss, Xmas moss, Echinodorus Tenellus micro 'Red' and Anubius Barteri var. Nana "Petite'.

I have an empty 10g right now that I have been thinking about making into a planted shrimp tank. I've been wanting to do it for a while but just haven't "pulled the trigger". I've tried keeping shrimp in my 55 but they always go missing - I think to my rhino pleco - but it keeps me worrying about even trying to keep them...

Beautiful tank though, really looks nice. Using CO2 or anything?
