Hi

After testing my water and coralline alge growing, I think I'm set to purchase some corals. I

The question I have is how many corals should I put in at first?
My tank is a 20 gallon. I currently have one clown and a diamond spot gobby.

I plan to get a frogspawn
open brain
plate coral
and torch, gsp.

That's about it.

Should I go one piece or all the piece together? or go slowly.

I would hate to turn on 96 watt for one little frag...LOL

thanks

That one little frag wants all of those 96 Watts, so I wouldn't feel bad about giving them to it!

I'd start out slow with just one. No real reason, just that if something goes bonkers you minimize your losses. But any of those you listed are pretty much "plug and play" assuming you place them in the correct locations. (Open brain and plate on the sand bed.)

Calcium in the 380-420 range? Alkalinity in the 8-12 dKh range? Salinity around 1.025ish and pH in the 8.0 to 8.4 range? If so, sounds like you're good to go.

In a 20g, I'd suggest possibly taking the torch off the list. They can get big in no time at all if they're happy and can really reach out and sting just about anything. In my 46g, I had one smack dab in the center of the tank and it was able to reach pretty much anywhere it wanted. (Bad choice on my part for placement.) Ended up having to sell it back to the LFS to save the rest of my coral! They don't play nice with others and in a 20g, I'm just afraid it could wipe a bunch of stuff out before you would even notice.

thanks for the reply

Yeah, i have Cal at 450 and Dkh 10. System is running like this for 2 months, I'm currently doing 4 gallon water change weekly. Hopefully Nitrate will remain at less then 10.

Thanks for the info on the torch as a local reefer was going to sell me a frag for 20, He saids is Limit Edition. I have no idea what does that mean.

I'm going to skip the torch, it sounds a little dangerous :shotgun:

Okay GSP and frogspawn first and see how it works out for
one month. Basically 10 and 15 dollars frags. I won't lose much if I fail.

thanks.. if anyone can post another frag maybe I should add.

Greatly appreciated.

"Limited Edition" just means that you paid more for it than you should have.

But seriously, corals usually get a "limited edition" tag on them when you have to wait in line for a frag. Some of the big name coral propagators have year-long (or more) waiting lists to get a small chunk of certain corals. So, they get the name "limited edition" or sometimes just "LE". Never heard of a LE Torch though - must be a very odd coloration or something.
