Looks like a good start; fresh and saltwater aren't really all that different, all the basic principles still apply. Why a freshwater tank if you're a diehard saltwater guy?

I started out as a fresh guy, I just don't talk about it. Even when I had my reef going I had a 55g planted tank. I decided to start up the FW because I had the 10g in storage and all I needed was some water, fish and plants. I figure a FW tank is better than no tank. Right now my Reef is not put together and is on the side burner for a bit.

I have always liked planted tanks and I figured what the heck. Now I'm looking at increasing light and getting more plants. UGH!!!

go big or go home

Looking good :) Did you get the driftwood because it reminds you of live rock? :p

I didn't really think about it that way. I wanted drift wood because I love the way it looks in a planted tank. I wanted a nice substantial piece and I found this one and wouldn't let go!!

I hear you, couldn't imagine not have some type of aquarium set up. Something about tanks (fresh or salt it doesn't matter) for sure, once you get one going it just seems to grow and grow!

your old 55g tank is still sitting in my garage unused

I already have MTS, are you trying to make it worse?????? I don't have the stand or the lights for that tank not to mention filtration and all the other crap...although...NO NO NO!!!

I can't do that....or maybe in the office...UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So update on the little 10g.

I bumped the light up to 36w today. I put together the DIY CO2 thing-a-majig with the water sugar and yeast, still doing some research on ferts and where to go there. I'm about to go back to that place I must not speak of for a plant or maybe two. LEDs for the reef are going to be finished up tomorrow so I'll have an update for that thread.

Neilan, gonna have to figure out a time to get together with you. I need to borrow your pipe bender. I'm going to suspend the LEDs the same way you have your T5s over your 125. If I could find a good deal on a 20" light with about 40+w that would be sweet!

Anyway...so yeah...the 10g is becoming an obsession. Scary.

it's only ten gallons. it cant cost that much. can it?

and it is almost halloween so you just might end up in a dark suit with blinky lights. :silly:

LOL cost is not an issue with the 10g. Everything I pick up for it will last forever it seems. I would really like to go with T5HO on it for some serious light to get those awesome ground covers we talked about. We'll see what I can dig up on CL and other places. I'm headed to HofT to have a look see at some plants. Got to get all the fake crap out of there!!!!!!

No fake plants in my tank now. As per the advice I've gotten so far I've gone all stems and those bulbs you can get. I've had luck with them before and they are growing already. Just something else to have going in the tank.

Here are a few pics from today with the increased light, doesn't really translate in the pics because of the crappy cam I'm using but believe me it is A LOT brighter. I also picked up a few neons today, couldn't help myself they looked lonely and were healthy so they came home with me!

I added red LEDs under the hood for night time just for something interesting in the tank. They are on 24/7. I will try and get a pic of them on and post it when I can.

Lookin' good. I'll have to dig up my pipe bender - it's here somewhere. And when you come get it we'll fix your CO2 problem as well. (notice that wasn't a request)

Thanks!! I do to. When I got them yesterday the LFS had a 40g tank with a black background and plants, must have had 100 cardinal tetras in there. They looked amazing.

I've always loved my little neons!!

I am happy to report that all fish are present and accounted for this morning and doing very well. Neons are sticking together and eating like mad.
