If you use clear PVC, what would the point be if it was under gravel anyway, you wouldn't be able to see it because it would be covered. If it was clear, and not hidden by substrate, congratulations, you just pissed the fish off because they can't swim where they want, but where YOU want.
I'm not sure I understand you here... why would the fish get pissed because they aren't swimming where they want? They obviously have the option to choose whether or not they wish to go into the tunnels.

I'm glad you spent only $10. I get the shop-vac will suck out the dead fish, old food, and other random stuff, but the fact that you're thinking of failure shows that even YOU don't see this working out.
Could this be dangerous? What if you were vacuuming out the tunnels to clean them out while a live fish were in there??

Overall, Rebel, I honestly think this is a pretty cool idea when a few precautions are taken. Let me know how it works out! :D

I look at it as one of those Fun Houses at county fairs, the mirror and plexiglass maze. It's a fun idea and fun when you first go in, but when you want to get out and keep running into glass, it starts to get annoying. I use this example figuratively.

This was also a part of another point I had made.

I noticed some of you are taking my posts to heart and that's not what I meant to do. If I offended anyone or caused them to get too worked up and angry, then I'm sorry, those were not my intentions, especially around the holidays. This forum should be where no one has to feel hesitant about posting something unique, so again I apologize.

Please be extra safe this time of year. Merry Christmas Everyone!!!

doesnt this kind of defeat the purpose of a tank, lol XD. i see where you are going with this, but i see some major problems with it.

oh, and if you do it with clear pvc it will grow algae inside of the pipes

+1, The thought is nice, but just unrealistic. Clear PVC will grow algae, which you wont really be able to clean out, snails, crabs, etc will get down in there and clog up the works, as will nasties which will rot inside there due to no real water movement and cause many other issues. Also 1" isn't very big, only real small fish would fit inside there.

It's a neat thought, I just don't think it will work out.

What if you had a canister filter and hooked up the outlet to this thing so it had flow through it? Do you think it would be too much that the fish wouldn't use it then?

I'm not saying this is or isn't possible but you sound so sure that they wouldn't use it. Are you speaking from experience or just speculation?

If you went to an airport with those moving walkways and you had 2 choices... Walk down the regular non-moving walkway or walk down the moming walk way that is traveling away from the direction you are walking? (Like a tred mill), which one are you going to choose?

The fish arn't going to swim into a tube that has water flowing OUT of it. I GUARENTEE it.

comparing fish in a pipe to humans on an airport conveyor? maybe he should put tiny little toilets on the sand bed so that the fish poop in one spot instead of all over the place too!

Oh Jesus!

Are you serious?

I state again.. I GUARENTEE the fish will not swim in the pipe with any kind of pump/filter forcing water threw it.

If you guys want to make up every unrealistic excuse in the world to justify something, have fun! The fact is, it isn't going to happen!

Hey it could very possibly happen. He was just having some fun and seeing if it would work. He never said that it would. So there is no reason to talk like this I am sure you have had creative ideas in your life before. And this is one for him not all ideas work but they are worth a try.

fish swim directly in front of powerheads also. they swim in strong currents in the ocean.
what's unrealistic is comparing human behavior with fish.

Okay, You all know everything!

Anyone soo confident in their 'knowledge' they want to place a bet?

Let me know on that...

#1 Reef's don't typically have strong currents, Reef's are in shallow water.

#2 What an animal does in the 'real world' to survive is MUCH different then what a domestic 'pet' does. Even if your fish came from the ocean, it's now in a fish tank and has adapted to a much different life.

#3 Swiming into a power head in open water is MUCH different then swiming into a closed tube with water being forced out of it.

#4 Are you saying fish a dumb? Because I've seen a tang that eats out of ones hand and actually allows you to pet it. Not dumb by any means.

Salmon swim upstream!

Salmon don't live on a reef!

Also how many fish under 1" in size do you know that swim 'upstream"? None! Fish that small arn't big/strong enough to fight a current.

i wanna create a gondola for my fish tank...... where fish get into a little transparent box and a small rope, pully and motor system transports them to the other side of the tank. sweet idea right?
