Hello forum!

If I am lucky, my aunt is going to give me her big aquarium for free. I don't know how exactly how big it is, but it comes with a stand and big equipment. It is over 30 gallons for sure, so I'm thinking it's a 50+ gallon tank? I'll have to have another look at it later on.

My question is about certain species of fish and their compatibility. Here is the list of fish I have researched frequently and are my favorites:

1. Honey Gourami
2. Dwarf Gourami
3. Pearl Gourami
4. Golden Gourami
5. Congo Tetra
6. Angelfish
7. Dwarf Loach

When I did the research, these are the fish with similar temperatures and temperaments. I do realize every once in a while a aggressive Angel shows up. Would these fish be able to be a community within a tank? If one species isn't, what species that are similar could?

I don't care about interbreeding between the gourami types, so I was thinking of having one pearl with three different females, such as a golden female, snakeskin female, and moonlight female (since they are similar size), and one dwarf male with two dwarf females and a honey female (these are all examples of my plan, not my actual plans).

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I think a tank full of gourami would be an eye catcher for sure. I think the only one that would concern me would be the angels with the gourami. But a very cool combo!

I adore gourami, and their colours. The colours are the definite eye pleaser to me. I love angel too, and a couple books I own say angels will do ok with other quiet fish (gouramis in this case are very quiet) but are the chances high of an angel attacking a gourami if I include several hiding places for them?

Angels typically do very well with gouramis. But yes, some of them are territorial, but gouramis can hold their own, thats why the 2 species usually do well together. But, angels are wildcard fish and sometimes they get too bossy. In general though, they do fine with gouramis.
However, I would not advise having all those gouramis in the same tank. In general, most labrynth fish shouldn't be mixed with each other. However, those are peaceful gouramis, so maybe. Somebody with more experience will need to chime in.
Congo tetras need a decent sized tank, so make sure of the parameters before getting attached.

In my books, they said the minimum for Congo Tetras is at least 20 gallons, in which I am pretty sure this new tank is well over 20 gallons. The original fish in the tank anyways were angelfish, so it is indeed "deep" enough for them to thrive in.

Figure out what the tank size before making too many plans though. Gouramis need access to the surface, and congos need horizontal swimming room.
BTW, its good that are researching. Just beware of the date of your books. I am not saying they are wrong or anything, but newer books are much more accurate than older ones because we know a lot more now about growth stunting than we used to, so some older books tend to give smaller tank sizes than most aquarists nowdays recommend. So, check the dates. :) Its also good that you have more than 1. Multiple sources are the way to go!

I have never had angels before but when we had our 55 set up before my wife had five gouramis in it. Opaline, 3 spot, dwarf, kissing, and pearl all together and they did fine no aggression. It all depends on the fish though. I am currently cycling the 55 to put it back up for her and I am sure she will fill it with gouramis again.

Kinda depends on how big the tank is.
Your gourami plan I'm not sure about, yes females are more docile but that's not always the case.
IME I've kept the honey gourami trio, the honey gourami pair, gouramis and honey gouramis, and gouramis and angelfish. All do fine together. My only concern would be that you'd get some too aggressive and they'd have a total territory battle. Congos IMO should get a 50 gallon tank if you get it, watch out as they are very active which might peeve your gouramis and angels a bit.
Keep in mind
