My room evaporates water really really fast! I have a 5 gallon in there and want to know how to make water ok for topping off. Can I just leave the pitcher out overnight to dissipate chlorine? I dont want to use Prime for such a small amount of water if I can avoid it.

Do you know 100% that theres only chlorine in your tap? If you dont know absolutely, I would condition it. In such a small tank, I wouldnt risk adding water thats not conditioned because even a small amount of chlorine/chloramine could reek havoc on your tank. If it was a 55g & you were only a few gallons, it wouldnt be as big of a deal. Just my opinion! :)

Fair enough. I will just have to condition it more exactly with a syringe so I dont waste it or od my tank. I just wish evaporation would slow down! lol

I pour my big bottle of prime into a smaller prime bottle with a flip cap so I can put drops of prime in..
2 drops per gal... Makes it easy on a smaller tank..

lol yea. What about a syringe?

That would work too if you don't want to keep a separate bottle... I do because I'm usually doing multiple tanks at a time with a 2-3g bucket... I wouldn't want to take the time to syringe out prime for each bucket...

I would just treat a gallon jug's worth or more and keep it sealed and use it to top off when needed. It would be easier than trying to measure accurately for small top offs each time.

Yea...That makes sense for top offs...

Good point. I may try to clean out the next milk jug we empty out.

I also use a capped 1 gallon jug for top offs. I top off my jug by using any extra conditioned water from my 5 gallon bucket when I do a PWC.

If I were you I'd use a gallon water jug.. I'd be visualizing any missed/ unwashed milk residue making it into my tank... Ehh

That's a good idea. I mean, you don't want that top off water to sit around forever or anything, but it will last for a little while. When I dose small amounts of Prime, I just use a small medicine dropper. A syringe works fine too. You're unlikely to overdose your tank with it, IMO, but at the same time it's great to save money whenever possible too. You can get an eye dropper at any drug store.

It won't if you rinse really well. I've used many a milk jug for fish applications, over the years.

lol thanks yall. I may do a gallon water jug just because our milk jugs are shaped wierd lol.
