Do you have peacock moss in there?

No, not to my knowledge - the only moss I've added is some native stuff from around here, and we were not able to get any type of I.D. on it last spring when we were trying to I.D. the plants.

Ok thanks. I love the tank though! This tank is part of the reason I want some terestial plants for my 5 gallon :)

Been a bit since I updated this one, so here we go.

I harvested 30 Forget-Me-Nots out of this one for a buddy who is converting his predrilled 210 into a paludarium. Doing so opened up the pool area a bit, but not as much as I expected. Man there is a lot of roots still in there.

Going to do some work on this tank however, as one of the first things I saw the day after removing all the plants was a 2" crayfish. Bit bigger than what I really want in here. Unfortunately, I'll have to tear things down a good bit to find him as I have no idea where he is typically hiding.

LOL obviously I need to learn to remove things from behind the tank before I take my pictures of this one.

If you look at night with a weak light you may see your crayfish. I can usually see mine that way. BTW I may be buying a house soon and putting in a "natural pond" so I might ask for some advice.

ajaguilar thanks, I may try using my red flashlight that I use on my saltwater tanks. No problem on the pond, happy to help.

Had a chance to get out and collect a few things this past weekend, since our weather has been so unseasonably warm. I wanted some duckweed for my Tiger Salamander Paludarium and since the ice was off the local ponds I was able to get out and collect some.

Since I'd recently removed 30 Forget-Me-Not plants out of this tank, I once again had some open water in the bog area. All the previously introduced duckweed had died out, so after I skimmed some clean duckweed out for the salamander tank, I happily poured what remained into this tank.

The roots on these little tiny plants never fail to amaze me;

This guy is still happily pumping water in the same spot, although his buddy recently moved off;

I still think my favorite thing about this tank is how the various organisms survive on the margin between the air and water;

Do you have two sizes of duckweed or is the lite green color algae? I have both the size duckweed the tiny stuff (about the size of this period (.) ) s the smallest flowering plant of this planet.

Nope, just the one size. The lighter green you are seeing is a mixture of algae and some small pieces of hornwort. That stuff you have sounds like it would be very difficult to keep out of the filter.

Nope, not working, at least not for me. Could be the filter here at work as well though, so I'll have to check it this weekend at home.

There's a reply button. LOL I am enjoying the heck out of this page. Thanks for taking the time to post it. As a fly angler, those "bugs" sure interest me. Did you get any of them to actually hatch and try to fly off? I love the caddis, btw. Nice photos!

Thanks! Yes, we've actually hatched the caddisflies, stoneflies, and a dragonfly successfully in the classroom. If I'm not mistaken, there are pictures buried in the thread somewhere of the adult stoneflies and the dragonfly, as well as their molts. I got picture or two of this tank, last weekend so I'll have to try and post them up in the next couple of days.

This is absolutely amazing! I loved trying to do this as a child. Although, my parents were never pleased when laundry room shelve were covered in grass, frogs, snails, and plastic containers of water!

Someday! Meanwhile, thank you so much for sharing. I read through the while thread and was enthralled the whole way.

Well thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the chuckle. Sometimes my classroom looks just like you described LOL.

Don't typically get pictures of this tank during the summer, but happened to be at school doing some tank maintainence and had my new camera with me. Its a little point and shoot Canon that I'm still learning to use the macro on. Not great shots, but not too bad, so here you go . . .

Wow.

After almost 30 years in the hobby not much leaves me speechless. Nothin' against any number of great lookin' tanks out there; guess I'm just a little jaded. Just read from pg. 1 to the end. I was lookin' for inspiration for something like this, found it. All the more impressive to me since it's natives.

Coupla quick questions. I'm assuming the tank is at room temp. Don't see a heater and ya mentioned a mesh cover. Where does the temperature run on average?

Did you ever change the lighting? You stated at the beginning ya had one striplight? What wavelength and how many amps? How much ambient light does the tank receive?

Again, stunning tank!
