That may be ok Idk I only use what I have lol so I'm not sure if it will be a good filter or not. You could just buy a
Eheim and then get a uv like we was talking yesterday. I just mentioned they come built in on some canisters to kill two birds with one stone

True... I'll see what's what... Maybe get the better canister and hook up the UV to it.

We'll see. lol I'm sure you'll hear from me soon.

It makes a big difference if you dump the water out of a HOB, then rinse it out with tank water. That gets rid of a lot of the junk that ends up coming out when you turn the filter back on, but I think there's always going to be a little bit.

Another thing I have done is put a pre-filter on the intake tube so a lot of the bigger debris doesn't even make it in the filter. Hope that helps.

The pre filter in or on the intake? That sounds like a good idea. Gonna try that. I really don't wanna spend the money for another canister as the fx5 was a HUGE disappointment for me.

Ahhhh.... Cleaned out both filters inside and out. Washed sponges and replaced all my poly floss(thanks Andy)

And now..... Serenity :)

I have to clean my pads in my hob every couple days and the inside every week, week and half.

I have tryed putting a filter pad on the intake tube and that just made things worse. When I'd go to remove or pull it out of the water everything that was stuck to it fell off into the water making a mess.
