Not certain but they were in those tiny bags. I would say 1 to 1.5 inches.

I had the four of them in a punch bowl for a couple of days until I got a tank. And they were small in that.

This is a pic a shortly after I got them

Yeah. It's amazing how they grew. I remember first tank was a ten gallon and remember there being plenty of room in there. Couldn't see them from across the room in there.

Haha ya I had a comet years ago started in a bowl then a ten gal then a 20 I had it for about two years. But sadly she died when she was releasing her eggs. But they are still one of my favorite fish.

Sorry to hear that.

Yeah I started with a ten gallon then quickly realized that would be too small. Got a 55 gallon and had them in there for almost a year. Upgraded to a 120 gallon in January.

I think I have two males and two females.

No eggs yet except from my Nerite snails lol

Hoping I have them for a long time.

Mine before it got too fast for the camera

He/She's gotten a couple inches bigger, but now won't sit still long enough for me to take a picture.

:)

Thanks :) I wasn't sure he was a comet, so glad to hear you think he is. With any luck I'll have a 120 gal for him in the next 2 weeks. I'm stupendously excited.

Pretty comet reeb. Like the almost completely white tail.

Hard to take pics of mine too. I have to catch them napping or just chillin. If they are hungry they think I'm gonna feed them and start swimming back and forth all excited.

We have a couple HUGE commets or koi in our horse trough. Came with the house. They stay in there all year. We don't have to feed them because they eat algae and bugs. They won't even take prepared pellets anyways LOL

Yeah mine get super excited as well :) Your's are amazing, I'm not sure I've seen any that beautiful before. I'm also glad to hear that you succeeded with carnival fish, it gives me hope.

Thanks reeb. I appreciate that. I've seen some pretty awesome pics of comets. I bet yours will be amazing with the white tail once it grows out.

Is yours also a carni fish?

I'm really surprised mine never had any issues. You would think they would have been sick from the carnival. And ESP living in a punch bowl for a few days initially. Lol

Never had any illness. I only treated for gill flukes last November proactively as I read that even pampered fish from breeders can have these.

Oh hahaha
I am pretty sure they are common goldfish, they are about 6"-8"
During the summer we completely drain the trough a few times, clean it, scrub it, etc because we have horses who use it. Then we fill 'er back up and do it again in a month or so.
The trough is so huge, it's gotta be at least 300G. I haven't calculated it though.
I haven't tested the water but I will soon, now that you reminded me. There isn't a filter, but I have been thinking of getting one. Since there is only two and the thing is so huge, so far it hasn't been a #1 priority.. We've been trying to get the fountain part to work but so far no luck. I'll have to look into getting a filter though.

Almost, mine were actually used as a centerpiece at a banquet. It was given to my sister because she was a waitress for the event. They (there's 2, the other is a common) were in a 2 gal bowl my dad had for a month or two before i got my 29 gal. It's been almost a year, but it looks like I'll finally be able to get them the proper size tank. It hasn't been easy. I was in high school when I got them, so $ has been a huge issue. Had I not been able to get the tank I'm getting now, I was gonna buy a 150 gal water trough and keep it in the corner of my room. I'm quite glad it didn't come to that

I've read other postings which others have used tubs and such for goldfish.

However I would urge you to read up on cycling and GF. It's a huge tank and that helps but with breaking it down and scrubbing you are destroying the beneficial bacteria that convert the fish waste into less toxic forms. The filter helps with this. GF have huge bio loads meaning they produce a lot of waste because they don't have stomachs. This bacteria is not in water but attaches to solid surfaces including interior tub surface.

Algae growing in tub may help convert some toxins but trust me eventually the fish could become sick and/or die.

Just remember they are swimming in their own waste which is why a filter is required in a closed system which an aquarium or tub is.

Research cycling and goldfish filtration.

With those tweaks they will love the space.

Oh and I also wouldn't let horses drink from the tub.
