Does anyone know if you can remove the 90 degree optics from these units? I like the focused light but it's pretty intense, I thought it might be cool to remove half the optics so half are focused and the other half are spread out. I don't want to take the unit apart only to find out the lenses don't come off.

I have several rows of my 90 off, as to help with the higher corals. I was actually bleaching some of them at first so I took of around a third of the optics. Much better results now. Different tanks require different par. My tank is a 135 so it around 3 or so inches taller than a standard 125, so I went with 90 degree optics but it was just a bit too much.

Just ordered mine off eBay the dimmable taotronics. The seller name is trustpics or something like that. They replied back pretty quick and said it would take 10 days from china... We will see. It's usually 30 days from china. And I bought 3 fixtures for 560$

For those who ordered the TaoTronics TT-AL09 Dimmable LED Aquarium Light 120W Coral Reef Tank did you get yours shipped from Hong Kong? IF so did they charge an international fee on your credit card or bank account?

I believe the first 3 non-dimmable models came from China, but the rest were shipped From somewhere in the U.S.
I can't remember now how it showed up on my cc. If you payed by CC though, you are protected.

That's the problem with the lowest price EBay sellers. They drop ship from China and any import fees, if charged, are yours to pay. When I sold them, I added those fees and shipping from China. Then I saw what others sold them for on EBay, I pulled the plug on my fish tank LED business. You will get the lights. But they are notorious poor packers. And they sometimes don't tie the drivers down well enough. We took care of those issues before shipping them to the customer. Just give it a shake and be sure it doesn't rattle. If it arrives in good shape, you're set to go.

the company i bought from has them somewhere in california,, but when i messeged them they said they didn't have any in the US at the moment.. mine would be 7-10 days from china.. im almost finding that hard to believe.. but i talked to a guy tonight that bought his from china and they were at his store in 3 days...

What is the difference between these two units?

Just seen a set of lights at a fish store. Tgey were programmed for cloud cover and lightning.. Lighting wasn't going when I was there. But it was pretty sweet watching it dim out to look like the clouds were rolling over the reef

It's completely silly IMO. Corals don't benefit from lightening. It's mans input on what reef lighting should be. The truth is, corals don't care about lightening storms, and they care less about cloud cover...lol. Corals are much like plants that they need a certain amount of light for a certain amount of time....AND THAT'S IT.
Fish are freaked out by flashes of light.

Your response made me laugh,. ,...we used to have a supermarket over here that had flashing lights and the sound of thunder whenever the sprinkler came on to wash the fresh vegetables on display.,..scared the crap outa me the first time I heard it.
tank wise,. I suppose to some the simulated lightning storm and cloud cover may look kinda cool but as stated above by mr x ,.i'm sure you'd enjoy the effect much more that your fishes would.

Ya. It's a neat effect.. I like the cloud cover.. But not so much on the lightning

If I had that enviable bottomless budget, my dream 2000 gallon reef might have a cloud cover LED routine....to please me. But all the other bases would be covered before the bling was added.

I would not pay those prices for those lights and their gimmicks. One friend bought like 5 or 7 spent $3, 500.00 on them.
