I'm in the same boat looking for lids for my tanks and they are expensive. Try going to a glass shop you may have better luck finding them cheaper.

Yeah I use hoods with 2 cfls on all of my 10s. Very inexpensive lol

How much does an led strip cost and how much of it would I need?

It shouldn't cost too much. The Aqueon modular led is really good, inexpensive, and bulbs are very easy to replace. I think a t5 and led strip cost around the same amount.

Strip. Because I think it'd work out if I just took the led strips and attached them to a glass cover. How much do the stops cost? Also how much does the fixture cost?

Would the marine land led fixture work? Not the double bright just the reg. they are cheaper than the t5 systems on pet mountain.

So are led strips replacement LEDs or an actual type of led lighting?
The fixture would prob cost at least $50.
What's the max your willing to spend?
Here are some led and t5 that I like:

The single bright? They could prob work though the double brights would prob be better for med light.
Single bright is les bright so it is of course cheaper. ;)

The marine land double brights are about $75 on pet mountain. Would that Aquino fixture work for higher light plants? On amazon the double bright marineland is $68

I think in going to go with a dual t5 HO unit. I did a little research and it seems like even the double brights only supported some med light plants at the most.

The aquaticlife t5?
Are you gonna have a pressurized co2 system?

I think the Aqueon one is only med light. The finnex ray2 is the best go for high light IMO.

I'll prob go with the nova extreme dual t5. I like the price on amazon. I won't be doing pressurized CO2. I find it more trouble than its worth and I haven't used it on other tanks with good lights.

Ok. Just make sure to get the dual daylight or one daylight and one rosette. Actinic is usually for SW and will make your tank look way too blue. If you have high light without pressurized co2, algae is definitely something to really worry about.

Yeah in my other high light tanks I dose some excel every once in a while, not as much as it says to dose. I'll probably end up doing the same with this tank.

Oh ok. And algae isn't always an outbreak?
Not trying to be rude or anything but, If you have other high light tanks, why don't you use the lights you use on them?

The only other high light tanks I have are 10 gallons. And I use a hood with 2 cfls on them. I think that's as close to high light as most people get with 10s. And as for algae, I get some on the glass that I clean off at water change time, but other than that, the plants, sand, and hard scape stay algae free!

Ohhhh. Ok gotcha ;).
Do you have any algae clean up crews? And what is cfls again?

I used to have a few pond plants that came in with some plants I ordered but I'm pretty sure those are all gone. So no, no algae clean up crews. And cfls are compact fluorescents.
