Update on my tank. Have some new members. 2 marigold swordtails, 2 neon swords, and 5 gold barbs. Had an unexpected death today. One of the mollies I had died. I'm not quite sure why.

Here are my water parameters. Maybe someone can suggest something.

pH is 7.4-7.6.
Ammonia 0-.25 ppm
Nitrites 0ppm
Nitrates 40ppm
KH 10
GH 5

That Molly may have been just weak. Sometimes it happens.

Love the rainbow shark and Chinese algae eater!
Never seen a full grown Chinese algae eaters but heard they do grow that large. Glad to finally see one!! Beautiful tank!

That's true. Everyone else seems fine. So you think all my parameters, especially GH and KH are ok?

Yea he's a pretty big one, thanks for the kind words!!!

Are you sure there's no signs of ich or other parasites? Check out my post about my experience with Petco today..really disappointed

No, no ich, at least I haven't seen any white spots on anyone. Honestly. In the last 2 months that I have bought fish from Petco I would say 50% of hem have died. Luckily the larger gouramis I recently bought are fine. As for other parasites, I don't think so? I haven't seen anything unusual? I honestly have never seen other parasites in a tank other than ich. And I will check out your post.

Just hang in there. Sometimes you get un lucky.

Of course, I will hang in, just frustrating especially when you have time, money, blood, sweat, and tears tied up into it. Not to mention 36ish fish that have great personalities and all get along for the most part lol.

if you lose another i would definatly say start treating with an all in one parasite med..jungle makes a good one

I guess there are no tests to find out if I have any parasites is there? Anything that is "common" besides ich, that I should keep an eye out for?

Just unusual behavior.

Getting shipped 100s of miles and then crammed in a tiny amount of space makes fish weak.

That's why I buy my fish from a mom and pop fish store. The owner quarantines new fish, breeds a lot of the fish in the back, and has large tanks for each species of fish.

Update on the tank. No other deaths. Everyone seems normal. However, lol. While doing some maintenance on one of my HOB filters I noticed a bunch of small snails all over the place. My guess is they got in through plants? Or the media I used from an established tank. But I haven't seen any snails in the tank itself. Any idea how to get rid of them? Or if I NEED to get rid of them? Should I put some in the tank itself? Or not a good idea?

One more question, not sure if this is common or not, but I have this green substance growing on my glass hood. Kind of looks like mold or algae or something. Is this bad? Maybe caused by the condensation and humidity?

All I did was wipe it off.

I wouldn't worry about the snails, unless they start eating your plants. They are actually god for your tank, they will eat leftover food.

I would t worry too much about that algae on the hood. I'd clean it off really well. Just keep an eye out for algae in the tank.

Haven't noticed any snails actually in the tank. And I did clean the algae off the hood. No signs of algae in the tank.

Here is an update of my tank.

Wow looking good! I get that algae in my lights too..just scrub them off every few months..I would keep an eye on the snails though..they can take you tank over..have you ever seen them in the tanks at pet smart and all? Don't quote me but I believe parrot fish are among some of the species that will pick the little snails off the glass and eat them...that may be why you don't have them in the tank!

Thank you thank you!!! I cleaned my canister filter today. And they were in there too, but bigger than those that were in the HOBs. I try to stay away from chain LFS and stick to mom and pop shops but yes I have noticed that. I haven't noticed any in the tank. However today I did put to in there to see if anyone would eat them and my banded leporinus kept nibbling at them until he sucked the snail out of the shell and ate them both. It was pretty cool to watch. But I am assuming you are correct and the reason I don't see them in the tank is because they are getting eaten.

I also get the algae on the hood from my air stone, any moisture really can cause it, just clean it haha! Great tank!
