If I add salt to my guppy tank and I'm testing the water under which do I test saltwater or fresh? It might sound stupid but I'm kinda new

Hello Nagy...

I dose a teaspoon of standard aquarium salt in every 5 gallons of new, treated tap water in my Guppy and Corydoras tanks and use the Freshwater API test kit.

Any specific reason your adding salt to your tank?

I've heard a lot of people say that it helps with their color and also promotes breeding (like they need it). Almost every fish store around here has added some aquarium salt to the mix.

When ever I get my guppy tank up and going I'll try a few tests with it.

Salt stops pathogens (bacteria) from growing , Which promotes less stress for your fish and helps keep disease down.. It's the same concept of back in the day before refrigerators people used salt to preserve their meat ( kept bacteria down).
