1. Kordon AmQuel Plus Ammonia Detoxifier

2. API Ammo-Chips Filter Media

3. Top Fin Ammonia Remover

4. Aqueon Ammonia Neutralizer

The tank is freshwater 36 gal please help. I am looking for a product that REMOVES AMMONIA AND LOTS OF NITRATE .

PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE MEAN ANSWERS I NEED HELP AND I REALIZE HOW BAD IT IS. Also my Ph is 7.6 the booklet says it should be that but it seems high what do you guys think?

If you have inhabitants.....imo, your best method is to do 50% water changes every hour till down

So you recommend no chemicals. Also someone on here told me multiple big water changes are dangerous .

My advice, stop using prime!!!!
It gives high readings of ammonia and nitrates even after Prime made it safe and locked for easy filter removal. I changed to api stress coat+, not the zyme, the stress coat+. Greatest results ever!
Then decorate with as many natural plants as u can. buy a bunch of foxtail plant also known as hornwort. They grow faster than any other plant i know, no special co no special lights its almost a plague. I guarantee it will consume all ammonia and nitrate.
Buy or make a refugium with these plants.
Don't overstock and dont overfeed!
I DONT MAKE A WC FOR OVER 3 MONTHS. And i measure weekly and all parameters stay the same!

Wow!! Everyone has different things to help with nitrates! I feel like putting a lot of chemicals in the tank might make it worse. I never heard of the stress coat to remove nitrates , will have to try. Also the plant that you said dose it grow like duck weed? Because I hate duck weed it just consumed my tank. If so is there any other plant that is good for eating nitrates and ammonia

Swimming in high ammo and 'ates is much worse than large water changes. Get those levels down

Ok will do! Since I am already driving 3 hours to petsmart I hate to come back without fish, but I feel like it might not be safe right now?

Hi, API stress coat (?) won't remove nitrates that I'm aware of when using it. Have you tested you tap water or whatever you use for water changes? Usually water changes will improve conditions just by that.

That's just a crappy brand of Prime.

Two things work, plants and large water changes (80% recommended).

Well three if you want to install a protein skimmer.

If your nitrAtes are that high you're either overstocked, over feeding or don't do sufficient water changes.

My advice is don't try to fix the nitrAte with chemicals, fix the underlying problem.

Just saw your stocking. Don't waste your time lowering nitrAtes, it won't last 24 hours. Get a bigger tank or less fish.

Everybody says water changes, plants, but what about this detoxifier? http://m.petsmart.com/mt/www.petsma...jsp?productId=2752420&f=PAD/psNotAvailInUS/No

Generally these products detoxify or make the ammonia safe for 24-48 hrs which gives the aquarium biological filter time to handle it. They are used for water changes to make tap water safe for fish.

Edit - water changes (treated with prime, API ammino lock, etc) will also rebalance ph and kH, reduce nitrates to a better 20-40 and keep ammonia close to 0 - assuming your tap water is fine to use.

I find with the strips that they tend to under-read for ammonia, nitrate, etc. Or mine seem to anyway. I find them ok'ish for ph, kH but the liquid test more correct.

Stress coat makes the water aquarium safe and all plants consume amónia and nitrates.

I don't do water changes since I stop using prime. Don't believe me? Try it out.
Plants. Cleaning crew. I'm not saying it's the prime. Prime works but leaves all agonia and nitrates in the water. They there but in a safe mode. They say!

Well eventually your PH will crash as a warning.

Unfortunately for me I have soft water and my kH is low already without doing water changes. The water changes keep my specs where I want them. The plants help but they come and go. I assume your tank would be well planted?

No. Not yet.
Guys try to mimic nature the best way you can. It's all u need to know.

I would agree, no more fish until nitrates are down. Even then, it looks like a mix of goldfish and tropical?

Do you know how to edit the tank stock on a profile. I put that when I first got that tank and since then some have died or I have given them away due to over stock.
