I have a 37 gallon aquarium, and I was wondering if there was an easier and faster way of doing water changes. Right now I use buckets And a gravel vac.

I just siphon the water straight out the window I'm fortunate enough to have a high draw next to my tank so I put my container of water on there and let it siphon into the tank

Okay thanks! I just hate lugging buckets around....

If you have a sink within 25' or 50' you can invest in a water changing hose, aka a python. You turn the water on and it creates a syphon to remove water, then you turn a valve and the flow reverses to fill the tank. Super easy....if you have a sink close enough

The closest faucet is about 40' away

Looks like you'll be lugging buckets.

That was my concern when I loaded my basement with tanks, I could run a hose to the nearest sink and fill the tanks that way which means I would have to add a conditioner as the tank is filling? Not sure I want to do that with the fish I have, to drain the tanks I would need a pump since there is not enough height.
So back to the buckets, I got a few 5 gallon buckets from Home Depot. For an old guy, I have been blessed with good health so for now, I make water changes part of my work outs.

I just got an aqueon water changer over Christmas that is 60ft You can also buy extensions for them. Changed out both tanks the 37g and 36g and not a drop of water on the floor!

I have a hose right outside my window. Only problem is I can't control my water temperature from the outside hose.

I put dechlorinator directly into the tank that is to be refilled and then refill it straight from the tap.

Note* if your tap water is extremely cold then you may want to refill from a sink or other area where you put a little hot in there to bring it closer to temp.

Okay thanks

I'll have to look into that, thanks!

+1 for a python. But i use buckets and 2 6.5gallon food grade barrels totaling 19.5gallons daily, which is every second day for each tank, a 52g and a 65long which take 20minutes max. Water changes get faster and faster the more you do them.

You can get a water change kit from petsmart, or any fish supply website and they are usually 25'. Then you can just buy 1/2 clear tubing at Home Depot or any home improvement store, you can buy it by the foot, you just need to measure out how much you need. Make sure you give yourself extra so you don't have any problems. Then get a 1/2 to 1/2 hose connector and a couple ring clamps and connect the new tubing to the one you bought and it make it however long you need it to be. As for the water conditioner, you just add it to the tank as the water is filling. You want to add the amount of conditioner for the entire amount of water the tank holds. So you would add enough for all 37g.

Thank you! But why do I have to add enough for the entire tank? Just wondering.
