They are a type of killifish called 'panchax'.

sorry elephantnose, but they are egg layers. I wonder if you are perhaps confusing them with halfbeaks - a similarly shaped fish??

What other fish do you have them with? They get 6" long, have very large mouths and will eat anything that fits in it.

^Agreed. Their mouths are surprising big -- I've seen them take down smaller tetras with no problem. A lot of killies are known for being jumpers too so a lid or floating plants may help to deter them from that.

This is one of my favorite fish...I think they have beautiful coloration.

This is from my own experience.

They are definitely Golden Wonder Killifish, as the above post stated, they are great jumpers...you need to have the aquarium completely covered. It looks like you have a male and female. They do better in larger schools and the male will continuously try to mate...maybe to the point of being too much for 1 female.

I always keep 1 male per 5 female. And it is better to have only 1 or 2 males as they do tend to chase each other.

They are omnivores and scatter egg layers.

I believe they are very peaceful, mine never bothered any tank mates

They get around 3 inches and are not the species that have a live span of 1 year.

Mine always mate when well fed, I have eggs all the time. When I first got mine, I kept some of the eggs to hatch. It was a disaster...the fry are cannibals and will eat their smaller siblings. Mine had to be housed in individual containers if I want to keep them. Once they reached about 3/4 to 1 inch, they did not eat each other and were peaceful.
I assumed they must have a strong survival instinct to be mean babies.

I hoped this helped.

luckily I had an empty closet to maintain heat (I lived in Maine at the time where it is cool) and I had them in small plastic lunch meat containers like the oscar meyer type. They could be housed only with siblings of the same size. Then they were moved into plastic shoe box containers, then into a 2 gallon before going in with the parents. I had 11 babies survive. I lost a lot of babies the first couple of days, until I seen they attacked each other. No where on any web site did they mention baby separation.

But they are really cool in schools to watch.

Thanks for all the information I think I will be trying to rehome them as I dont have a lot of extra room I just didnt want them to be culled bc someone didnt want them anymore. I have neon tetras a DG a small angel(will be moved one he gets a little larger) and cory cats.

I don't have a lid on the tank as it is a planted tank and a have very low light...

Anyone know of anyone who may be intreseted? I want these two to go to a good home. I wouls keep them myself if I had the space
