RCS are the easiest to breed.

Amanos and Ghost Shrimp are bigger, but neither is easy to breed. Both have a Larval stage before babies turn into Shrimplets.

So, consider a dedicated Shrimp tank.

Oh ok but the only thing is that cherry shrimps don't get that big :/
I don't think I'll be able to keep them with my cichlids like angelfish and gold Severums....

I do plan to keep the shrimps in their own tank that is what I am doing with the cherry shrimps
Also anything about the food you could help me out on?

Some people have luck keeping RCS in community aquariums, but they have to give them a nice big section of moss to hide in. Otherwise they just become expensive fish food.

Amano shrimp get pretty big and Ghost may okay especially because they're clear.

Another one that can work in 30 gallons or larger in a very peaceful tank would be a filter feeding shrimp.

When you say moss you mean java moss? I currently don't have java moss to grow but I do have mario moss

Yeah but the only thing is that they are hard to breed as they are larvae

What are filter feeding shrimps?

It could be any moss; java is quite common and available.
Marimo moss (ball) is actually an algae.
Filter feeding shrimp have specialized appendages with fine hairs and they use them to collect particles, including food items, in the water. They require a current for feeding. Unlike the dwarf shrimp (RCS, CRS), they can get quite large. Bamboo shrimp, wood shrimp, and vampire shrimp are examples of filter feeding shrimp.

I've used willow moss as well.

My 5g RCS tank has guppy grass, java fern, and floating Brazilian pennywort:

Yeah I currently don't have Java moss I do need to get some I light the way it grow so quickly I do need some new plants for my other larger tank so might put some in there are well.
Yeah I looked at some picture of filter feeding shrimps and they look pretty cool but I don't know if im ready for those kinds of shrimps yet plus I only have a 5 gallon tank currently so don't know if I'll be able to keep many.

How big do cherry shrimps actually get?
Also when feeding cherry shrimps how do I get them to notice the food? I'm planning on feed them flake food for now but I don't know how long I should keep the flake in the tank for...

Moss Balls will not hide them from fish well enough View attachment 260475

Java Moss is usually easiest to get and grow.

My adults RCS are about an inch, one a bit bigger. I feed them algae wafers 2x a week

They can smell the food. And a filter feeding Shrimp needs at least a 20g. I lose track of tank sizes, sorry.

I only give a tiny piece of a normal sized Omega One Algae wafer. They make mini ones, but I have these already.

They do eat flakes, but the flakes have to soften a bit. They get Shrimp pellets when I feed my Corys.

Their fav is the Repashy gel. Easy to make. My Shrimp will grab food from the Catfish and run away with it. These are CRS ( not a beginner species).

Ok I put in a flake about 1 or 2 hours ago and they did seem to notice it until now and even then they didn't seem to be eating it only cutting it down into smaller pieces and then throwing it away :/
Do you just drop a whole flake in or do you cut it down into smaller pieces?

Yeah no worries I don't think I'm going to get filter shrimps
I need to get some algae wafers
What do you mean the flakes have to soften up?

Those are bamboo shrimp which are a fan feeder shrimp. Vampire shrimp are also fan I believe and there are a few others. They need a decent water flow and they catch "junk" in their little fans and then eat the junk off the fans :) not sure if anyone ever replied but I definitely didn't see a pic. Vampires get bigger and are a more blue/grey color. Bamboos are tan/reddish
They are super peaceful and fun to watch. They do need an aged tank though to make sure there is enough food unless you want to feed them by hand with a syringe. Even that is iffy

Yep, RCS stay about an inch.
If they have lots of biofilm they may not be hungry. Wait a couple of days.

I didn't feed my shrimp for a couple of weeks and they were fine. But they were in a Mature , heavily planted tank.

Don't stress they'll eat when they're hungry.

Yeah i saw picture of them they look so cool and i love the different colours on them but i dont know if i can keep them currently with my tank size :/ Plus they are hard to breed...
Im only thinking about these shrimps because im planning on putting shrimps in my community tank.
I currently have cherry shrimps and they are small im sure they will get eaten and have very little hiding space :/

But im sure they must have eaten all the biofilm by now?
Its only a 5 gallon tank with 15 shrimps some small and some big and i have had them for a week now

How big was your tank that you keep your shrimps in?
Alright ill see how it goes im just worried they aint eating...

The bio film regenerates :)

But I'm sure it will be eaten quickly then it grows right?
I just don't know how to feed them :/

Biofilm pretty much grows on any surface in the tank. I cannot imagine that the shrimp can consume all of it.

Mine started breeding within 4-6weeks. You'll know one has molted, when you see a molt lying on the bottom.

Mine didn't eat at first either.

No anytime I get new plants my shrimp swarm it, to pick through it and see what goodies they can find

Like mentioned an algae wafer or cucumber/zuchini would work. If they aren't interested then they won't eat it and it means there is enough biofilm. It regenerates and shrimp are tiny. Every piece of gravel, plant, decoration, filter tube, and tank wall will get a biofilm so there is a lot in there

Like coursair said sometimes it takes them a while to really come out once they are first introduced. If you see molts in there it is a good sign.

Also leave the molts. They also eat their own molts too- so they might have enough of that too. Eating the molts helps them with calcium that they need
