The Black/ Silver eggs hatched this morning. Time to really get in gear and get that grow out rack going! ;) Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's off to Lowe's I go  :D

Sounds like a reality TV show in there andy! Must be fun to watch.. do your angels do a morning patrol when in spawn? Like frantically swimming the tank looking in every nook and crany for possible threats?

Actually it's real reality TV. :D lol
Regarding the pairs, NO, they don't. The reason they don;t is because I have them in a tank by themselves, up high so there is little to nothing going on in front of them to alarm them ( unless they are looking down, they are looking out at the other side of the building), 3/4 of their tank is blocked off so there is no visuals of other fish except when they come to the front of the tanks for food and the slates are towards the rear of the tanks in the protected area. They have no reason to be fearful of a lost spawn except by the "big fish" ( a.k.a. ME :D )
What has happened in the past was the fish got used to me pulling their slates so they weren't very surprised by it (I assume.) As I said previously, it's been a while since I had to deal with post spawning aggression. This one pair however, is a mix of 2 fish from different places that were just put together a few days before the spawn and she hadn't been with a mate before when spawning so I can only assume that's why she went bonkers on him. I took the empty slate out of the tank last night and the 2 fish seemed to be better today. No new injuries that I could see. I'll replace the slate closer to when I expect them to spawn again.

I can only guess that because they are so relaxed, they spawn more frequently. It's why I always recommend to people to put their Angel pairs as far away from foot traffic as they can. It makes the fish more comfortable and wanting to breed more.
As for fun to watch, thankfully I have other things to do in there because they are kind of boring to watch when they are so chilled out. I do watch them from a distance so I can see what they are doing but mostly, they are just hanging out, chillin' by the pool with a beer. :D lol But once they see the ladder moving, they know it's feeding time so it's "front and center or ya lose out". lol Right now, I do have some F1s that are growing and should be in a larger tank already. :( But they are fun to watch because they are lower on the rack and can see me all the time. They are like puppies looking for attention. Any slight movement from me sends them all into a frenzy in the corner of the tank. I don;t know how they all fit in 1 corner but they find a way. Once I get a little further along, I'll do a video of the place as is so you can all see this. ;) (y)

Here's a good one for ya Brookster:
So I had to tear down and rebuild my grow out rack today because I was too far off on my layout. ( So much for doing things by eye anymore. lol ) I was working in front of the section that my Koi pair are in when I noticed that she was starting to clean her slate. I did water changes earlier today ( before dismantling the rack) and saw her tube slightly out so I figured I had a day or 2. I had gone to get the evening brine shrimp meal from the house ( my freezer for the building isn;t here yet) and when I got back, I noticed she was really working the slate while her male was looking at me for dinner. ( I was letting it thaw out more before feeding, as usual.) I started working on rebuilding the rack while I was waiting when I noticed the female was laying eggs. The male was still looking at me for his food. When I saw this, I immediately went and gave them their food hoping to stop the spawning so he could be involved. I had watched her lay 2 or 3 strings of eggs then eat them since the male was nowhere to be found or interested. The feeding worked!!! She even stopped to eat the shrimp. Once they were done eating, I continued to build in their area and they continued to spawn, only this time together. So I have to say, I think this is the first time I have seen my fish choose food over breeding. Ya gotta love it!!! They are more "human" than we think. lol :ROFLMAO:

As I said, this is REAL Reality TV. (y)

Only way to get me out of the "mood".. " I smell bacon! ! Later!!!" That sounds like quite the sight andy.. i think thus fish room needs 2 things.. a small fridge/freezer and a digital recorder;)

I am already waiting for the chest freezer to be delivered. (y) Already been ordered. The fridge will come later.

I thought about the recording idea but you never know where to point the camera. If it occellates, you could miss something and I really can't see putting so many cameras looking at each tank on the breeder rack. ( just the security cameras :brows: )And these things usually happen when my camera is in the house or the battery is low. But the fish do do some crazy things... which is why I love them so. :D Thankfully, I get to see some of it. (y)

Will the craziness ever end??
I have an Aqueon tank, which still has the label on it, that I moved the new koi/ gold marble pair to. Time was getting close for their next spawn so I put a slate in the tank yesterday at about the same area I usually do. I happened to notice that the female was paying way too much attention to the backside of the Aqueon label ( There is writing on it- see pic) which is on the opposite side of the tank from the slate so I moved the slate in front of the label. The slate only covered up less than 1/2 of the label and while I was watching, I noticed the male and female both cleaning the glass right NEXT to the slate. I couldn't have that ( lol) so I happen to have a double wide piece of slate so I put the thin slate in the regular spot and put the big one in front of the label. Good thing I did because they spawned on the big one. Looks like I am going to have to use that piece from now on because unless I move the fish, the label is not reachable to remove.:facepalm:

On the egg side, even tho they were only laid within the previous 2 hours, I noticed some white eggs when I pulled the slate so I have the spawn in a 2.5 gal tank just so I can keep a closer eye on them. Why waste the larger tank and m. blue if this spawn is a bust?

here's the pics. (y)

My thoughts exactly. I watched her swim in front of the label, swimming from side to side and going from up to down and I'd swear she was reading the darn label. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: I'm just not sure I would trust her interpretations of the tax codes. ;)

Today's excitement was the second spawn of the Silver/ Black pair. It was HUGE!!!!!!!!!! Especially since this happened just 7 days after their first spawn. That first spawn isn't even free swimming yet. These pics show the spawn as best I can get it. It's large enough to take up almost 1/3 -1/2 of the entire slate. I left it in with the parents to keep the peace but I will be EXTREMELY peeved if they eat this huge spawn. Oh well, that's part of it.
You can see reflections of the grow out rack that I was working on today in these pics. They didn;t care that I was working right in front of them. It's nice when they are on top and out of the way. (y)(y)

Update

I am now approx 7 weeks into having these fish on the breeding rack and I thought I should summarize where I am at: Forgetting any spawns from the temporary rack as none of them survived, I currently have 4 pairs of fish that are actively breeding and as of today, have 9 working spawns. One spawn is from the Black/ Zebra Lace pair where the male died. There should be 10 working spawns but the older Gold Marble/ Koi's spawn was scrapped due to poor results.
This should show you how, when properly managed, these Angelfish can produce a lot of fry continuously and why it is necessary to have a number of tanks when trying to breed them and raise the fry.

Here's a few pics of what is up and swimming. The others are in M blue and near impossible to photograph.

Enjoy (y)

Last pic. These are the Zebra Lace/ Black fry. ( I can't wait for these to get larger  ) I also can't wait for the A/C - Heat to get back in there so I can do away with so many wires. It makes the airlines stick out in the pics. :(

Why don't you use the suction cups for the heater?

Fish look great. If only I had the time, space, and experience.

Thanks.
Most if these heaters came from the breeder's room I bought and they didn't have suction cups with them so I had to Mcgyver something with the airstones to keep them off the bottom. With the compressor now working, I'd really like to get those airstones back. lol I've since found suction cups for 4 other heaters that are not, I believe, submersible but since they are European models I have never heard of, I'm trying them out. A number of the heaters I got didn;t work correctly so they were disposed of. Can't trust a heater I have to set at 92 degrees to keep the tank at 78 degrees. I'd rather buy new if necessary.

As for "If only I had the time, space, and experience. ", space is the most important thing. Experience comes with time. I didn't learn this all overnight. Last year was my 50th year keeping fish. (y)(y)

It's a secret. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
But seriously.....
I am on well water. I've checked and it is ammonia, nitrite and nitrate free, moderately soft ( 5-6 drops on the GH test) and 8.2 ish in PH. I have a garbage can on wheels that I put a pump in and currently I am running a hose out the door to water the lawn but will be installing a sink in the place and the hose will drain into there...eventually.
For the breeding rack, I have a smaller gauge siphon hose with some rigid plastic on one end that goes in and collects all the "poo" and a larger hose for quick water removal if necessary. I have a hose attached to a faucet with a home made PVC nozzle end to hang on the tank. Water is siphoned into the can, the hose fills it right back up. As you can see in my pics, I have gallon marks on each tank so I know how much I am taking out and need to put back in. I did 17 tanks today in a little less than an hour. ( Some were empties that I needed to get ready so they took longer to prepare.) The funny part was, spawn #10 was by the blushings and I was doing water changes in the 2 tanks next to them while they were spawning. They didn;t even stop other than to see if I was there with food. ( I rewarded them for a job well done tonight at dinner. :D )
With this setup, I stay relatively dry. I actually get wetter moving the fill up hose than by the draining hoses. Longer rigid plastic keep my hands out of the tanks. (y)
For the grow out rack, these tanks are drilled already so I will be installing a drain line out the back wall and a drip line into all the tanks. The plants out back will love me once it's done. :D:D
