The black plastic liner at the bottom has a crack in 2 places...there is water coming from underneath that seam...

What do I do???

do you mean the black frame of the tank? If that is cracked most likely you need a new tank. If it is just the silicone seal the old stuff can be scraped off with a razor knife and resealed.

This. My point was if it was all acrylic, you could acrylic bonding gel and fix it up that way.

If it's a glass tank it can be resealed if the glass isn't cracked and you can replace the plastic trim. If the glass is cracked then it would probably be cheaper to replace the tank.

Bonding a cracked piece of acrylic is unlikely to work because you won't be able to get the bonding gel into the crack to truly fix it. It will be a patch that's prone to failure at a later date.

Did it get bumped or something? How did it crack? You will need to drain it, empty it out, remove fish and plants, buy new tank and re-set it up with everything from old tank.

Ok so I rushed out and bought a 75 gallon and came home and there is no leaking water... I think I must have spilled some water and it collected in the frame of the tank.

There is 2 cracks in the black bottom plastic frame of the tank...

I'm going to switch out the tank but am thankful it doesn't have to be right this moment.

This story ended well! No more leaks (God willing) and you now have another 75 gallon! :D

?

Question is do I really have to switch the tank out if it's the plastic frame that is cracked? Does that stabilize the tank?

It does and there is a cross brace on the bottom

That's jumping to conclusions and not necessarily true. Tank frames can be replaced. It's not the easiest thing to do but manageable. Glass cages sells the frames for cheap. http://www.glasscages.com/?sAction=ViewCat&lCatID=43

forgot they sell the frame. Regardless that is a lot of water to be taking a chance on, I personally wouldn't. Just looked at glass cages, would you use the 90 long frame for a 75? they don't list a 75

Replacing the plastic frame really isn't that big od a deal. Its certainly a lot easier than replacing a pane of glass.
How do I tear down this tank with the least amount of stress to fish??

Rubbermaid tote. Run an air pump and heater in it. The fish will be fine.

Yes. It's the same footprint. The only difference between the two is height unless either tank is a custom build.

100% agreement on both statements.

Ditto on the rubbermaid tote... also you can run your filtration system on the tote, you don't want to dry out your bacteria!

Will the canister filter be okay for a couple of hours?

As long as it stays wet it will be fine for longer than that

So I've just noticed there is an explosion of tiny snails that must come out at night...I've been waking multiple times in the night to make sure my tank is still there...any way to rid of them as I make the switch this weekend?
