Ok now I am totally baffled :banghead:
I got a shock from my predator tank so I unplugged everything pumps , heater , lights , filter , also the skimmer , I figured I would narrow it down with process of elimination , well this is what's baffling me every thing is unplugged
and I'm still getting a shock , what could cause this any idea's I lost my harlequin basslet and my hamlet from this already I moved the other fish to QT till I figure this out , I don't have much hair so I can't pull it out as its short,
can the unplugged equipment still hold power unplugged,
I"m lost with this any idea's :thanks:
please don't ask for parameters as this is not a parameter issue

If nothing is feeding electricity to the tank than its highly unlikely the tank is harnessing current. There has to be a rational/logical explanation here. I'd shut the breaker box switch for that entire room off and see what happens.

everything is unplugged and I'm still getting shocked
it's weird because I just replaced everything on this tank about 2 months ago
I replace all electric pumps heaters ect every two years weather it needs it or not
as salt water is hard on all these components
I don't get a shock from main tank just the lower one
I also had GFI outlets installed not to long ago

Electric eel hitch hike in?

Are you sure the outlets were installed correctly. (In other words verify it with an outlet tester you can get at any hardware store) if hot and neutral are switched that could cause it

It's funny I thought the same thing about getting shocked from my tank last night. I asked my girlfriend to stick her finger in without telling her why but she didn't feel anything. Once I told her I definitely felt a sting across my face

Wait a sec, you have GFCI installed, your getting shocked and the GFCI aren't popping?? That doesn't sound right to me.

the strange part nothing is plugged in on the tank till I find the stray voltage
some how the tank is still hot with voltage

Are you sure it isn't you rather than the tank? If there is NOTHING plugged in the tank then there can't be any current going into it. Is there anything else touching the tank?

in all seriousness last night when I was getting shocked I actually had a scratch on my thumb that was fresh and hurt when I put it in the water....if all of your equipment is off and unplugged then double check and make sure nothing else is touching it.

There has to be something plugged in or else you have exposed nerves in your hands or nerve damage.

gotta hit the garage find my volt meter
I know when I had my hand in tank it gave me a slight tingle like off a small battery

You might have a cut in your finger that you are not aware of. Salt water will have such effect in your finger. You might also be experiencing an electrostatic discharge if you are stepping on a carpeted floor.

How big of a shock are we talking? I get tittle "shocks" from my tank but I think those are little cuts. On the other hand I have been shocked wile cleaning out a bio cube and my whole arm was numb and shaky.

I think I found the problem my daughter plugged in a old extension cord to vacuum the rug, it was never unplugged when she finished vacuuming , it was rubbing up against bottom of the tank , after looking at extension cord it became clear that caused the shock as it was all cracked and brittle , I cut off both ends before putting it in the trash , I also emailed the electrician who put in the GFI's he will be here mon morning to inspect all the outlets to see why nothing popped when I was getting ,
shocked
thanks everyone for all your help

I have a grounding wire in my big tank. It won't pop if there is no connection to ground

I have a similar story, but I figured people would think I'm crazy. I was cleaning out the filter socks and I went to grab one and I felt this sharp pain. I looked at my finger and saw a very small "cut". Every time I stuck my hand back in the tank, it felt like I was sticking them in razor blades. I couldn't figure it out. Then I hovered my finger above the water and thats when I knew it was actually an electric shock. The weird part is, when I stuck my other hand in the water nothing happened. Only when I would put that finger in the water did I feel it. I never could figure what the heck it was.
