I have them in a mini community. Too soon to tell how it will work though. There are 3 electric blue acara in their 75 so it could.get crazy

Would you recommend just them in the tank or would you put them with some dithers or other species?

2- cryptoheros panamense

And a school of lemon tetras

Do you guys think that will work?

I would shoot for a couple of pairs along with a school of tetras. A single pair in a 55g would seem a little empty unless you had a large school consisting of 15-18 fish. Panamensis are one of the smaller species in cryptoheros, I've never had or seen a male over 4". I've seen reports of larger fish but nothing I've personally witnessed.

Ok awesome I was hoping I would be able to fit more in there but I was reading articles saying 6inches and super aggressive

Would it be best to get 8-10 at first and remove the rest once two pairs form?

I usually start with 6-7 and go from there but yes the more you start with the better chances for a couple of pairs. The articles you've read are true they are fairly aggressive but from my experience it's always been towards the females and not tank mates.

Should I even bother with it or would it be beneficial to run?

I'd take a sump over a canister any day! Besides my fish room all my tanks operate on sumps.

Ok sweet, I'll just read up on how to set them up for freshwater I thought they were only useful for salt
