FresH2O's 20g planted rescape

The friendliest place on the web for anyone with an interest in aquariums or fish keeping!

Unless I invest in an RODI, no SW for me. Sounds weird but I dig the mechanics involved that support the display tank about as much as the display tank itself (sumps, pumps, plumbing, etc). Somewhere I have a handwritten letter from the 80s from Julian Sprung describing reverse flow UG filters and Redox potential. I need to find that.
No new livestock. Scape comes first.

How about a sand waterfall :) They seemed popular at one stage.

Visible substrate - edgy, very edgy. Got to get used to the idea but could be nice (er, not used to idea yet).

Here’s my inspiration for the next scape in the 60g ;) might give you some “visions” too [emoji16][emoji16]

So.much.to.take.in.here. I can certainly see why.
Perusing the entries (not even the top 500) in the IAPLC is another source of inspiration. That lighted back wall brings out the shape of the hardscape.

I have visions of sand going where it should not with a sand fall.
Some of the island jungle themes feature sand on the perimeter and something plant specific (e.g.- ADA Aquasoil) in the center. Nice if you don’t pull plants out very often. Me pulling dark grains out of light sand would be like herding cats.

IAPLC... oh how many hours I’ve spent gazing at those scapes! So much to see. The white back lit backgrounds are certainly in trend at the moment. I considered it myself but stripping all the black paint seems like to much of a task to me [emoji23].

One thing I have noticed with all these award winning scapes is simplicity is key. Minimal number of plants with detail to what goes where. Also moss gets a fair workout ;)

I found the inspiration for my next Ada 60h build on the iaplc aswell [emoji16] nice and simple, I think I’ve been over complicating my scapes and making them a little messy.

Stunning inspiration, like a magical fairy forest. Wow!

~~~
The mechanical tank stuff not my fav.
My ideal is I would wish it to all work (tank stuff not have to think about that at all after getting it set up - or ever :rolleyes:), and have more focus on fish and plants combinations and how they do living together in their little eco system.
Anyhoo will be fun and interesting to watch no mater what you come up with - like usual.
No changes. Still cannot find the letter.
Here’s a two month progress pic. A little dim (morning phase in 24/7 mode). Very thick now:
Rug-roh. I did it again.
Pulled out all of the plants. Replanted the staur repens and Downoi. Red plants gone bye bye. Did not want the hardscape to lose focus. Next step: bleach the stones. IMG_4669.jpgIMG_4670.jpg
WAH-wu-what???! LOL!!! What's old is made new again!
Might miss just a little red in the side or something...
So any changing stock/ideas, other than the resident snails?
Motivation - rock focus??? Anything else the inspiration? Other than the antz in the pantz, gotta change it up since it's not yet right feeling, hahahaha?
I still have the plants that were removed; posted for sale in the classifieds here as well as in some FB groups. I need to learn to part with them though; I can always get more plants.
i will let the staur repens carpet the tank again while I figure out where to go from here. I do like the hardscape focus of the following images I plucked off of Google:
New fauna? Not at the moment. I might beef up the ember numbers or give the Forktail Furcata Rainbows another try.
