just a log for questions, comments, pic's, and all other stuffs possible. i should be getting the tank on the weekend of the 20th. first things first, stock list (reef tank). (i know that not all this stuff will fit and such)((just puttin it on here to help me decide))
2 or 4 clarki
copperbanded butterfly
yellow tang
blue tang
niger trigger
2-4 Bicolor Pseudochromis
some(3ish) blue or green chromis'
2 red scooter blennies
2-4 cardinals
fuzzy dwarf lion
2-4 firefish
bullet goby or 2-4 diamond gobies

Thanks!

If you go for a Pseudochromis, stick with just one per tank. Even distantly related species will tear each other to shreds. (There are a few exceptions, but bicolor Pseudochromis (which will be either Pictichromis paccagnellae or P. coralensis) aren't one of them.)

Tony

2 clarkii
2 cardinals
2 firefish
2 purple frefish
1 yellow tang
1 bicolor psuedochromis
4 chromis's
1 bullet goby
1 flame angel
1 royal gramma
maybe a blue tang until it gets too big, then it'll move into a 90
other stuff?

You will have to decide between the Pseudochromis and the Royal Gramma - the dottyback won't tolerate the Royal Gramma. The stocking otherwise looks a little on the high side (though perhaps someone else can comment on that). There are some nice fish in there though.

Tony

thanks, ill pitch the royal gramma. i know the stocking is high, its kind of an expiriment for a new filtration system. but dont worry, ill be sure to test after each new addition so i know when i need to stop.

so i should have the tank with in the next 7 days or so. and lately ive been thinking and im thinking about changing the plans. i kinda want it to be an agressive tank. id get a snowflake eel, ghost eel, maroon clown, damsels, a lion of some sort, a tang or 2, and possibly other fish. what u think? scrap the idea, stick with the new idea, what u think?
Thanks!

REVISED LISTS

2 clarkii
2 cardinals
2 firefish
1 yellow tang
4 chromis's
1 bullet goby
1 flame angel
or
1 snowflake eel
1 ghost eel
1 lion of some sort
1 maroon clown
some damsels

i just wish that there was a way that io could combined the lists cuz i always wanted eels and a lionfish. but i think it would look too empty with just them and then it would be almost impossible to come up with a clean up crew for it. but i also want the tropical reef look. idk what to do, im torn.

I know you said you were "experimenting" with a new filtration system, but both of those lists are really going to push you over the edge on bioload. Remember that if you go reef, you want water parameters to be as clean as possible... and that doesn't really allow for overstocking. And with an aggressive tank, that normally implies big eaters and big poopers... which means a LOT of waste. Again... doesn't really allow for overstocking unless you're willing to live with fairly high nitrates.

I don't think I'm saying anything you don't already know, but just had to bring it up. Just be aware of the road you're taking yourself down.

im still trying to slim down each list. i just wasnt sure which would be a better idea. like which would you guys prefer/recommend? im leaning towards the reef cuz i have a little more expirence with it. but im still not sure cuz i'd rather have unique fish than the fish i have in my 28, and with the reef i think that thats just what it would be unless there were any other cool unique fish that could go in a 55 that i dont know of.

I personally would go with the reef. I really like having corals. If your looking for unique there are a ton of corals that are very cool out there. A huge selection. and as far as fish if your willing to take it slow and save up this is a very cool looking fish in my opinion that would fit in your 55. This is another one of my favorites as well. I can't comment on personality or those kinds of things because i haven't owned either either one of them yet but they are very cool/unique looking. I would rather have a few more smaller fish then just a couple larger fish. Makes it look more like a reef community.

well i still have some time to think since i still dont have the tank like i was supposed to 2 weeks ago. idk. i always wanted eels so im still leaning that way. and cant they still be in a reef tank just minus most inverts? what about lions, are they reef safe (minus most inverts as well)? i kno damsels would be fine w/ most things besides small-ish fish.

ok so im decicing to go the eel route.
total stock list:
ysm clown
yellow tang
2 snowflakes or 1 snowflake and a ghost
violatan lion
random damsels
possibly blue tang
bullet goby
maybe an anemone
longspine urchin?
arrow crab?
serpent star?
choc chip star?
red knob star?

not sure about any of the inverts yet. and actually couldnt this still be a reef tank minus most inverts?

yellow tang and blue tang won't have enough room in a 55. You should skip both of those. Not positive but i think if the lion gets big there is a chance he will make lunch out of a damsel.

thats always a risk. ill try to keep them as well fed as possible. ill skip the tangs for now i guess. and couldn't it still be a reef? how often should i feed?
Thanks!

new (final?) stock list:
ysm clown
2 snowflakes or 1 snowflake and a ghost
violatan lion
random damsels
bullet goby
coral beauty
how many damsels could i put in there?
what could be a possible stock list for a peaceful tank?
Thanks!

I'm not very good with aggressive tanks so i can't help you much there.

what could be a possible stock list for a peaceful tank?

I am quite bored though so i put together a possible stock list for kicks.
1x O. clown or GSM (added last)
3x Bartlett's Anthias
1x scissortail dartfish
1x Midas blenny
1x radiant wrasse
1x bullet goby

You will definitely want to get a second opinion on that list though. It would have to be added very slowly keeping a close eye on your levels to make sure you don't overload the tank.

aside from the coral beauty none of those fish will bother corals just your inverts. So you could have the corals but i'm not sure what you would do about a cleaning crew

would they bother a longspine urchin? maybe 10? lol jk jk. so snails are a no? shrimp are nos along with crabs, although i might try an arrow crab.
