Thanks! So does anyone have an answer for me regarding whether I can "mix and match" fish within a type and they'll still school? For example, can I put together different types of cories or different types of barbs and will they still behave the same as if it were a group of the same type of...
Thanks! I guess I'll give up on the Angels idea. Do I need an algae-eater? That is, I don't currently have any algae; is algae inevitable so I should go on and get an algae eater? ...
I like the idea of adding more cories, cuz their cute. QUESTION: when dealing with fish that like to be...
Thanks all. I have this set to notify me when I get replies and it hasn't! Anyway, to answer your questions and ask more :-) It's a 29 gallon tank and has been running for over about 2 months now so I think it's fully cycled. This last group of fish has survived nicely so far...I think...
So my two angels and pleco died. ... Of course, the advice you all gave me was to return them. I suppose I'll give up on Angels. :( I killed several the last time I tried too. ... So I replaced these fish with 3 spotted corys and 2 dwarf blue gouramis. I also bought a couple more...
Ok... I'll see about exchanging the pleco for a smaller one and get a couple more cherry barbs. As for live plants, I did just buy an underwater bamboo. I'll see about trying the ferns you suggest--I've not tried live plants yet... Any things to consider? Thanks for the reply! amz
Thanks for the replies! So, other than the crowding issue, it's not possible to keep more than one angel fish? I just read at elmersaquarium site that angels do best with 3 or more--says they're less likely to pick on other fish. Should I get a third (I really like angels) and return some of...
Last year we tried setting up a 29 gallon tank and all the fish ended up dying...I've no idea why as I followed all advice given on this forum and in my online research. After months of staring at an empty tank, we're trying again. So far so good... We set the tank up in early January and just...
Thanks for the reply. I didn't see it until today because I only just now figured out that one needs to click on next or page 2 to see more replies! No wonder I'm having trouble here if I can't even figure out how to navigate a message board!
Well, coincidentally I just finished...
Aaaack! I'm SO confused! It seems everywhere I turn I get conflicting info on how frequently to do partial water changes and how large these changes should be. One book author recommends frequent, large changes (twice a week, up to 50% of the water) and the lfs guy at the shop today said to...
UPDATE: I went to PetSmart to return the AquaClear. They were out of AquaClear 300's so they gave me a Penguin Biowheel 170 instead. They said it was superior to the AquaClear anyway and assured me that I could use my retained media in it. However, once I opened the box I saw that it uses...
Thanks for the replies. I did leave the various bubblers running all night (we have lots of these in the tank---my son likes bubbles!). I left the filter in my bathroom sink overnight and made sure to fill the housing with aquarium water. And go figure---it didn't leak! So are the bacteria...
Is anyone out there? I need help! My aquaclear is leaking so I had to disconnect it. Of course it's 12:45 am so I can't go out and get another. Will all the fish die overnight?! What can I do? I'm not about to do a water change every 2-hours all night long as my Fishlopeadia suggests!
aquarium pharmaceuticals freshwater master test kit--- does everyone agree this is the best option? Is this readily available at pet shops? I tried the litmus paper test kits and found they indicated my water was great and then when I took it to an lfs they said I had way too much ammonia. So...
Thanks for the replies & welcome! I have an update. Last night we did a 40% water change and took out the large "colloseum ruins" that takes up half the tank. The fish seem to love swimming in and out and through this. Well, the top is hollowed out so fish can swim up there and be out of...
