If I'm not bald by the time this is over it will be a miracle..... Woke up, tested this morning (14 hours since I last tested): Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: <50 lesson learned: Don't test your parameters within an hour of a water change or you will get a false result that will send...

    Help!! Nitrates off the charts!

OK....did what you suggested trennamw, tested with .5ml tank water and 4.5ml tap and got a reading of 5ppm. Multiplied by 10 = 50 so not nearly as bad as I thought....guess I'm just color blind. Willl do another pwc tomorrow and should be good to go. FINALLY

    Help!! Nitrates off the charts!

Positive on the tap water question....have tested it several times...always says 0 trates. Wish they would make the test color results easier to differentiate.... they are just too close for my eyes. What looks like 80 to one person could look like 40 to another....UGH. I don't think it's...

    Help!! Nitrates off the charts!

should probably add that I emptied the tank all the way down to the top of the gravel, so could the trates have been so high that they are still reading off the charts after basically emptying the tank? should I rinse out the filter media in a bucket of dechlorinated water? running 2 AC...

    Help!! Nitrates off the charts!

Any reasoning behind that?? Just wondering why I should expect a different result, since my tap water is reading 0 Nitrates and I'm adding prime and bringing the replacement water to temperature properly before adding it. Should I or should I not be wringing out the filter media in the "old"...

ok.....so I checked my levels at 7 pm last night...ammonia was at 2ppm, Nitrites off the chart, and nitrates at about 5. Dosed my ammo back up to 4ppm at 7 last night. Got up this morning, checked levels and ammo was at 0, nitrites still off chart and nitrates still at about 5. Dosed ammo...

Started fishless cycle of 75 gallon tank last Wednesday...dosed it up to 4ppm strait ammonia. Have been testing all week (yes, I'm impatient) and nothing really seemed to be moving. Just tested a few minutes ago and the ammonia is down to 2ppm and nitrites have shot up to at least 5...that's...

took your advice venymae....added some new plants...same species as the ones that I already had but different hues, and it does look 100% better. Also, found that large bunches look a lot better than just a few spread around. :thumb: dosed the ammonia up to 4ppm on friday and it seems to have...
