Alrighty I'll give it a try, maybe post back in awhile and update how it went. Let's see what I can and can't grow in this thing (assuming no office sabotage.)
I live in Canada so I'm looking at $50USD + customs + tax at the border + $25 shipping. If it was for my personal tank sure but I don't really want equipment that expensive hanging out at the office. Office coworkers are already complaining about the lack of fish (it's day two, thank god the...
Oy all of these lamps are proving to be so expensive I'm seriously considering just picking up a compact florescent desk lamp to set over it. Might be low wattage... but would likely work no?
Looks like my lighting options are:
- 14in 18w 1 BULB COMPACT LIGHTHOUSE HOOD
- 14in 27w 1 BULB COMPACT LIGHTHOUSE HOOD
- 16in 24W 1 BULB COMPACT LIGHTHOUSE HOOD
Is >20W overkill on a 5.5Gal? I have no plans for CO2 on this thing.
Shrimp tank is a thought. Red cherries seem to be really expensive around this area though. I'm quite happy with a betta but we'll have to see, bettas are so interactive with you they're fun to keep imho.
I'm pretty on the fence about neons, they seem to be so hard to keep. I've come to love my...
Our office has been talking about getting an "office pet" ie an aquarium. Not wanting to see someone show up with a 1 gallon tank and a gold fish, I've dragged my 5.5gal 16" wide tank out of storage (this tank was supposed to be a tiny planted experiment but the space isn't available at home...
We moved my 36G mid winter about -12C outside. We put all the plants and fish into a tall rubbermaid container and used a couple of big water jugs to move about half the water. Drained the tank and tossed at least half the gravel in buckets, loaded it all into a preheated SUV and off we went...
I'm not sure what exactly it was that triggered mine. I have six peppered cory cats in a 36g and they've been together for a year now. I recently changed my aquarium substrate to something more natural and that involved moving all the fish out to a shallow holding container and a very large...
My first set, from the posting on the 10th, were not good and quickly showed fuzz. We found more eggs a couple of days later and scooped them into the net. Two out of five went white but three were good and those three hatched sometime during the morning of the 15th. It looked like what was left...
Thanks! I checked this morning and the eggs are gone! I can see two fry for sure, the third egg is gone as well but I haven't seen three yet. My order with liquid fry food showed up yesterday so I'll give that a try to start them.
Just to make sure I've got this right, I should wait a day or...
I realize this thread is super old but the photos are exactly the same as what I'm looking at right now! I've had cory eggs appear in my tank this week and we picked up a breeder net very similar to yours, I'm hoping I can end up with some cute fry of my own in the next week. Do you mind if I...
I've been very happy with my stealth. I used to have a glass heater and made the switch to the stealth, I'm not switching back any time soon. It's nice not to have to worry about cracking or breaking the glass when working in the tank. The price is not bad on the stealth if you decide to switch.
I am going to do some hunting for rock to create a cave like structure this afternoon & I'll do some asking around about the pool sand if I stop at Petland. I can check local prices on things for comparison if there's something you're looking to check prices on. Having a dog, a cat and fish...
