my little bolivian ram is absolutely obsessed with bottom feeder tablets :) she'll seek it out and carry it around like a chew toy, flaunting it in front of the tetras until it falls apart.
yeah, some more hiding spots will help disperse that so nothing gets too serious. it also helps to compltetely rearrange the decor every once in a while, that way they have to redraw boundaries.
in that case yes. two pairs is easy in either of those. just provide lots of hiding places so the two males can have territores to claim and to prevent fighting.
i personally don't like breeding traps. they cause way too much stress on the females, and they often cause the females to abort fry, which is bad for females in the long run. it's better to provide lots of hiding places in a fry only tank and simply remove the female when she's done.
mine started chasing away other fish first, then hid behind a decoration and swam up and down the side of the tank frantically... a few minutes later a little black dot made it's way out. ;) sounds like she's close! do you have something covering the filter intake?
